Remember the first time you met your husband or wife?
Remember the first time you saw a vintage Ford Mustang?
Remember the first time you found a “bonus french fry” at the bottom of your McDonald’s bag?
We tend to remember our happy firsts.
They’re the moments we daydream about during idle times. They’re the moments that often represent benchmarks in our lives. They’re the moments many of us wish we could relive.
I remember the first time I met my wife. I was holding my crying niece, and she walked right up to me and said hello. I was immediately smitten.
I remember my first homerun when I played baseball. I can close my eyes and see it traveling over the center-field fence. I don’t think my feet touched the ground until hours later.
I remember the first time I tried Sriracha sauce. My wife remembers this, too ? it’s the first time she had to hear me say, “Hey, sweetie… How much Sriracha should I put in the [insert name of whatever she is eating or drinking]?”
But what about our blogs?
Do you remember the first time you received a comment from a stranger? The first time someone tweeted you? The first time a reader sent you a complimentary email?
Whenever you are feeling down about blogging, think back to these firsts.
When it feels like no one is reading you posts, focus on that first comment. When it feels like a ham sandwich has more followers than you, remember that first tweet. When you come across a spiteful critique, think about that first email.
And Sriracha. Think about Sriracha, too.
