My pastor told a story on Sunday about the horrible luck he has whenever it’s time to get gas for his car.
Inevitably, all the pumps will be occupied. So, he’ll get in line and watch as the owner of the vehicle in front of him tries (from the looks of things) to pump gas for the first time in his life.
“Which side of my car is the gas cap?” the owner must be thinking as he circumnavigates his vehicle.
“How do I open the gas cap?” the owner seems to ponder next.
“I love those Fast and the Furious movies,” the owner apparently reflects as he grabs diesel fuel instead of unleaded.
It’s all my pastor can do to refrain from honking his car horn.
Sure, honking might feel good, but would it improve the situation? More than likely, it would frazzle the owner of the vehicle in front of him. That would cause the owner to become nervous, try to hurry, and probably make more time-zapping mistakes.
We bloggers often make similar mistakes when we’re impatient. Rather than let a situation play out, our impatience will get the best of us.
We’ll change the focus of our blogs on a whim.
We’ll continuously redesign our perfectly-ok-just-leave-it-alone blog designs.
We’ll send pestering, follow-up emails when we haven’t heard back about a guest post within a few hours.
And, worst of all, we’ll abandon or delete our blogs when success doesn’t happen fast enough.
Sometimes, you’ve just got to let things play out.
Besides…
You can always honk your horn tomorrow.
