As children, our fears were as numerous as the number of scary monsters we were convinced hid in our closets.
As teens, most of us feared pop quizzes, public speaking, and standing out from the crowd.
As adults, we fear recessions, colonoscopies, and Father Time.
What scares you?
It’s been said that courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the willingness to act in spite of it.
For too many bloggers, this willingness to act escapes us.
Sure, we’re not afraid in the same sense we were afraid of monsters as children, but we’re afraid just the same.
We’re afraid of failing. We’re afraid of it being too much work. We’re afraid of what might happen if we succeed.
That’s why we put off things we know we should be doing.
We won’t submit a guest post for fear of rejection. We won’t write posts that count because we’re afraid it’ll be too much work. We won’t promote on Facebook because we’re afraid it’s too complicated.
We won’t leap because we’re afraid we just might fly.
Until we decide to stand up those to fears and meet them eye to eye, we’ll never be able to take that next step as bloggers.
It’s time to submit those guest posts. It’s time to write posts that matter. It’s time to embrace Facebook, Twitter, and the social media platforms that confound us.
It’s time to fly.
